At forty road miles from Jackson this is the far corner of the county for anybody dispatching from the north, and in practice the approach comes from Brownsville twelve miles away or from Mason, also twelve. Somerville is twenty and Whiteville eighteen. The roads are good and the town is small; the constraint is that addresses here change faster than maps do, and a house that was a field two years ago may not resolve properly on a satellite view. Confirming the approach with whoever is on site is worth doing before leaving.

Losses divide almost cleanly by age of building and by elevation. The old town center and the rural properties in the Hatchie bottoms take the water and the damp; the new building along and around the Highway 222 corridor takes the failures that come with newness. The unusual part is how little the two groups have in common — most towns on this desk have a gradient of building ages and this one has two distinct populations separated by about eighty years. Anyone quoting work here should be told which of the two an address belongs to before the visit.

Haywood is one of only nine Tennessee counties that adopted the Home Improvement licensing law, which covers residential work from three thousand dollars up to just under twenty-five thousand — and one of only two counties on this whole site. In a county adding this much housing that is the most useful thing a homeowner can do before signing anything, and almost nobody mentions it.

Stanton was a small Hatchie-bottom town of a few hundred people until 2021. It is now the address next to a five-and-a-half-billion-dollar Ford and SK electric vehicle and battery campus employing something like five thousand seven hundred people, and the housing stock is changing faster than anywhere else on this site. Two populations of building now sit side by side here: pre-war rural frame on crawl spaces, and construction that is not finished yet.

Stanton incorporated on 1 February 1927 and is the smallest municipality on this site at 0.52 square miles, sitting at 315 feet with 417 residents at the 2020 census, down from 452 in 2010. The town runs its own water treatment plant and pumping station at over 800 gallons a minute along with sewer and refuse; Brownsville Energy Authority supplies gas and either Southwest Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation or Chickasaw Electric supplies power depending on the address. Immediately alongside is BlueOval City on the Memphis Regional Megasite, a 4,100-acre Ford and SK project.
