Shelby County contains Arlington, and what is written here was written for that address rather than for the county as a whole. Incorporated as Haysville in 1878 and re-incorporated as Arlington in December 1900, with a 2020 population of 14,549 on 23 square miles.

Twenty-five road miles northeast of downtown, normally by I-40 to the Canada Road or Airline Road exits and then out along US-70, or by TN-385 across the top of the county. The traffic is lighter than on the eastern corridors, so the drive is usually predictable.
